What is Shiatsu?
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has existed for thousands of years and reflects China's approach to illnesses and imbalance.
TCM bases its pathology on the Yin-Yang Theory, the Five Elements Theory and the Theory of Qi (vital energy) and uses various forms of diagnosis, such as pulse diagnosis, Hara (abdominal palpitation) diagnosis and tongue diagnosis.
There are several treatment methods in TCM, including Acupuncture, TuiNa (massage technique), Phytotherapy, Nutrition and Kinesiology.
TCM takes a holistic approach to the human body; body and mind are one.
Physical problems affect the mind and mental problems manifest themselves as physical symptoms.
Shiatsy is a Japanese massage technique originating from TuiNa (a Chinese massage technique).
Eastern medicine works with the client's Qi (vital energy). Qi flows through the meridians and the meridians run both through the entire body and on the surface.
When Qi can't flow freely, the body becomes imbalanced, creating blockages and voids that the client may experience as symptoms.
By regulating Qi, it is possible to remove blockages and fill voids, stimulating the body's self-healing power.
